I am a Montreal based visual artist with an interest in local and natural history.
My current work involves Parc Lafontaine which is situated in the Plateau Mont-Royal area of Montreal and 200 years ago the eastern side of the park was the site of the Papineau Woods. In 1821 - 1822 over 50 indigenous plants were collected in this woods by botanist and doctor Frederic Holmes and the collection still exists in the McGill University Holmes Herbarium.
I am presently attempting to locate and photograph these plants today on the island of Montreal as well as share information about Park LaFontaine's early history. I am particularly excited about a plan initiated by the gardeners of Parc Lafontaine to re establish 50% of the plants collected by Holmes, back into the park over the next few years.
